Does my Labradoodle reflect my mood or personality?

Mirroring: Your Labradoodle as a reflection of you – relaxed grooming with proper table manners

Did you know that your Labradoodle is a true master at sensing your mood? This phenomenon, where your dog flawlessly picks up your energy, is called mirroring . And believe me, doodles excel at this! Their sensitive, intelligent, and sociable nature makes them experts at reading their owner.

I see it happen every day in my salon. Clients sometimes arrive in a hurry or stressed, the hectic pace of the day still palpable. And their doodle? It seems to effortlessly imitate the tension, bouncing into the salon, restless, or even tense. This is rarely a coincidence. The dog perfectly mirrors the energy of the moment.

Why self-reflection is the key to relaxed care

Understanding that your own behavior directly influences your dog's is invaluable, especially when it comes to their behavior on the table during grooming. It requires some self-reflection: dare to honestly examine your own posture, emotions, and communication. Are you calm and clear? Then your dog will often mirror this. But if you unconsciously radiate anxiety, tension, or uncertainty, there's a good chance your doodle will pick up on it. This can make grooming sessions like brushing, washing, or trimming unnecessarily difficult.

That's precisely why I integrate attention into my coaching for you as the owner. It's not just about the right techniques or products, but also about how you apply them. Calmness, rhythm, and clear communication make a world of difference in creating a relaxed atmosphere during grooming and teaching proper table manners .

A wonderful example of this is Monique's experience with her Pip. Initially, grooming was a real challenge. Pip was restless, found everything exciting, and was difficult to handle on the table. The turning point came when Monique became aware of her own insecurity and haste during grooming sessions. She learned to mirror her own changes by working more calmly, speaking more confidently, and giving clear, consistent signals. And what happened? Pip mirrored her change! Less stress, more cooperation, and, above all, much more enjoyment during grooming. His behavior on the table improved significantly thanks to Monique's changed approach and the consistent application of table manners .

Want to better understand your doodle's behavior? Start with yourself and learn to mirror!

How do you learn to mirror?

  • Become aware of your own emotions: Observe how you feel before you begin your care. Are you rushed, stressed, or relaxed ?
  • Breathing exercises: A few deep, calming breaths can help you calm down and radiate this calmness to your doodle.
  • Body language: Pay attention to your own body language. Are you tense, moving hastily? Try to maintain a relaxed posture.
  • Voice Usage: Speak calmly and confidently. Avoid hurried or uncertain commands.
  • Consistency: Be consistent in your approach and commands. This gives your doodle clarity and helps it relax .
  • Observe your doodle: Pay attention to your dog's reactions to your energy. If he seems restless, take a step back and check in with your own mood.
  • Visualization: Imagine a calm and harmonious care session before you begin. This can help you radiate the desired energy.

It's a wonderful process, and with the right guidance, deepening this connection with your doodle becomes much easier and more enjoyable.
