During the course, I'll be working with professional materials, all of which you can order individually from Buddha's Doodle Shop . Below, I'll tell you exactly which essential supplies you'll need to groom your Labradoodle.
1. The clipper & attachment combs:
A good clipper is truly the foundation of your grooming tools. We recommend the reliable Heiniger clipper with Wahl attachment combs , or the slightly more affordable Tritra 2-speed corded clipper with the same Wahl attachment combs or the Tritra attachment combs.
For hygiene and a neat finish, use the shorter lengths (3, 6, and 10 mm) . However, the sizes you'll most often use are 22 mm, 25 mm, and 32 mm . The 22 and 25 mm are perfect for the body, and the 32 mm is used for the legs. While larger sizes, such as 36 mm and 50 mm, are also available, these are often too large or unwieldy for most Doodles.
Note the snap-on system! If you already own a clipper, check if it's compatible with the snap-on system for our attachment combs. This system, known for the Heiniger Saphir , makes changing the shaving heads and attachment combs incredibly quick and easy.
Maintenance is crucial: a well-maintained clipper guarantees optimal performance. Don't forget to remove hair and dirt after each trim, disinfect the clipper head, and oil it regularly . A well-oiled clipper head reduces friction, prevents overheating, and keeps the blades sharp. Also, always check the snap-on connector for damage.
2. Professional trimming scissors: for the perfect finish
For detailed work and creating that irresistible "teddy bear" look, good scissors are essential. You'll find a selection of high-quality scissors in my shop.
You'll need straight scissors as the basic tool for shortening the fur and creating a clean baseline. Curved scissors are ideal for shaping and creating beautiful, rounded shapes around the head, legs, and tail. Thinning scissors are essential for thinning the fur, preventing tangles, and creating that natural, soft look. Finishing scissors are ideal for those final small details, softening the ends, and refining the final result. And chunking scissors are used to quickly remove large amounts of fur and blend it seamlessly—a very efficient way to do it!
Tip: Hold all hairdressing scissors with your thumb and ring finger for optimal control and comfort. Just like your clippers, don't forget to clean and oil your scissors regularly for a longer lifespan!
3. The poodle comb and coat spray: the finishing touch
A poodle comb is essential for thoroughly combing the coat, both during and after clipping a Labradoodle . This allows you to comb the coat before clipping and ensures a perfect, tangle-free finish afterward.
To give the coat a shiny, frizz-free finish, use a natural coat spray . This gives the coat a beautiful, healthy appearance and also protects against new tangles.
