The easiest and safest way to remove ticks

What do you need?

  • Tick Twister , Flat tweezers are not recommended as there is a high risk of squeezing the tick, which could result in the transmission of harmful bacteria.
  • adhesive tape to throw away the tick or possibly send it away
  • Alcohol/iodine to disinfect the area where the tick was located.

Please note that you must remove the tick before not  irritates with oil, alcohol, or fire . Doing so could cause the dog to empty its stomach contents into your dog, increasing the risk of disease transmission .

  1. Locate the tick and move the hair around it to the side
  2. Grasp the tick as close to the dog's skin as possible . Be careful to squeeze the tick's head, not its body, as this increases the risk of disease transmission.
  3. Slowly pull the tick straight out of the skin with increasing force. You should not turn the tick (as was previously and sometimes still is recommended) because there is a chance that it will empty its stomach contents.
  4. Check that the tick has been completely removed . If the head is still completely embedded, try to remove it with disinfected tweezers. If any part remains, it will fall out on its own. If in doubt, contact your veterinarian and take a photo of the area.
  5. Place the tick in a box, bottle or plastic bag that it cannot get out of, or wrap it in tape. You can then have the tick tested for disease or dispose of it with your household waste. Don't flush it down the toilet; it will survive.
  6. Disinfect the area where the tick was located and the tick pen with alcohol or iodine.
  7. Wash your hands with soap and water.
  8. Note the date you removed the tick and where on your dog's body it was bitten (or take a photo).
